Single Player Card Games
Single player card games are one of the most beloved type of games across the world. As these games both tend to exercise the mind and use up a lot of time, they are often used as a way to alleviate boredom. Many of the single player card games available can be played with decks at your home, or on your computer.
The most common single player card games are variants of solitaire. These games usually involve you clearing out stacks of cards to make another pile of card. If you clear the game or set a pile up in a certain order of cards, you win. The many variants of solitaire play off of this concept, and result in you playing against the deck.
There are at least forty-five different single player card games that are based off of the solitaire rule set. These games have slight variants, such as number of piles dealt out that need cleared, or the types of piles that need formed. For example, instead of building piles of the same suit, there is a variant where you have to alternate the cards. For example, when the aces are played down, the two would have to be a suit of a different color. This version is typically a lot easier than regular solitaire, and is suitable for beginners. Pyramid Solitaire is based off of the idea that you have to be able to remove cards from the play area by matching it with a card that is either one card above or below the one you are trying to remove, regardless of suit. This uses a different strategy. Advanced versions of Pyramid Solitaire require that you can only remove a card if it is of the same suit and in the proper range. This version of Solitaire is extremely difficult.
There are even versions of single player card games that can be converted to multiplayer. For example, Spit and Speed are solitaire variants involve two short solitaire play fields. Instead of 7 cards, 5 card patterns are dealt out to each player, with the remainder of the cards split equally between the two players. The top card is revealed in the deck, and players rush to empty their play area. When no other cards can be added to the piles by either player, the top most card is turned, and play resumes. Players can work on either deck. When a player runs out of cards on their play field, the game is called and the players claim their decks. The first person to claim the deck gets those cards. The object of the game is to completely run out of cards in the deck.
